2010 Scholarship Program

The NWDA Scholarship Committee is now accepting applicants for the 2010 program. The intent of this scholarship is to enhance the value NWDA brings to you and your colleagues, and to reward those who demonstrate both academic and community-related achievement. Your company's participation in NWDA makes this possible!

Who's eligible?
The 2010 scholarship will be granted to a student in their junior or senior year of college—any staff member or child/spouse of a staff member from an NWDA member company is eligible.

What's the Deadline?
For those interested in applying, be sure to note the application deadline of June 4, 2010. 

When will Selections be Announced?
Recipients will be selected by July 9, 2010. Scholarship payments will be distributed to the recipient’s college or university by August 31, 2010.

The goal of the NWDA College Scholarship Program is to serve as a benefit to NWDA member-company employees. One scholarship, in the amount of $1,500 per year, will be awarded to a student in their final two years of accredited college or university education. This scholarship will be awarded for one year.

Applications must be submitted no later than June 4, 2010

General Parameters:

Awarding Guidelines:

Applications are reviewed by NWDA’s Scholarship Coordinator who will assign points based on the criteria rating scale outlined below. The coordinator will then identify the top three candidates.  The top applicants are reviewed by the NWDA Scholarship Committee (consisting of NWDA Board members) on a “blind” basis. The Scholarship Committee makes the final selection. 

Judging Criteria:

Applicants will be reviewed on a point system, with 100 points being the maximum.  The number of points will be assigned based on the following scale:

  1. GPA: Total of 40 points possible
    -- Applicants will be judged by their cumulative grade point average (GPA).  A perfect 4.0 would receive 40 points. Applications with a GPA under the required average of 2.5 will be disqualified.

  2. Achievements/Citizenship: Total of 30 points possible
    -- School Sponsored Activities are judged on a 10-point scale
    -- Community Service Activities are judged on a 10-point scale
    -- Achievements are judged on a 10-point scale


  3. Written Essay of 350 words or fewer: Total of 30 points possible
    --
    This essay must describe what the applicant’s college education means to them and what their aspirations are for the future; to include career plans, community involvement, and other goals
